Hi,

I face an error during Oracle 11gR2 grid and database software installation in Red hat 64 bit 5.4 and I have to reinstall them.
My question is: What directories and what files of the previous installation must be removed so that I can reinstall grid an database software? I do not want to reinstall the OS.

Thanks.

Both Grid and Database software were installed by oracle OS user. Of course, the oracle OS user also owns the setup files.

So if/when all the files owned by OS user "oracle" are removed from the file system,
then the system will be as it was before the Orale software was installed.

Please tell me in details which file and directory names must be removed?

It is nowhere near that simple. Depending on how far the install got, there will have been changes made to inittab and various files in rc.d, also information will have been written to your ASM devices. Your OUI inventory will be messed up, too.

Where in the install did it fail? Was it while running root.sh?

Root.sh executed successfully and the error occurred at the step the asmca created DATA diskgroup. But here we do not mention the error, we are talking about how to reinstall the grid and database software after the first failed installation. Have you ever experienced this case. If yes please tell me exactly which files must be modified and which files and directories must be removed.

I root.sh ran successfully, I do not see what your problem is. Just deinstall, it is all in the docs. Look at the chapter How to Modify or Deinstall Oracle Grid Infrastructure in the GI Installation Guide.
