Hello

I am trying to connect to sql server from sql developer

I have donwloaded and using "jdtds-driver" and thus I got the 'sql server' tab on the sql developer

However I am unable to get the 'Retrieve Databases' tab when i try to set new connection

In that case I am able to connect to the local database only

What could be the reason that I am not seeing the 'Retrieve Databases' tab on the 'New Connection' settings tab?

I am using sql developer 3.2.20.09 on windows 64 bit

Note that I downloaded sql developer 'without JRE' option and then downloaded & installed JDK 1.7.1 to link java.exe with it

Thanks and Regards
Chetan

I don't know about sql server and the client's requirement to connect to it. If it was Oracle, then this is appropriate forum.

Is there any special reason for you not to install the latest SQL Developer (4.0.2 currently)? Here's a tutorial which shows how to connect SQL Developer to a MS SQL Server database, perhaps it'll help.

Hello Littlefoot

Thanks for the link

It was the very first link I referred for achieving the connectivity with no success!

Though it correctly depicts how-to-connect, it does not help me in sorting the issue I am facing currently

Of course I will try to install sql developer 4.0.2 as you have suggested all the links I am referring for 'connecting sql server using sql developer' points to sql developer 3.2

Thanks and Regards
Chetan

Hello Littlefoot

Thank you so much

The issue is resolved after installing sql developer 4.0.2

BTW the 'Retrieve database' button is not really necessary as after logging to sql server we can always right click databases displayed right click the correct one to select 'Default database'

Kind Regards
Chetan
